Patio Storage Checklist

Getting your patio ready for the off season doesn’t have to be complicated. A little
cleaning, preparation, and proper storage now can help keep your outdoor furniture,
cushions, and accessories ready for next season.

Use this checklist before you pack everything away to make sure the essentials are cleaned, dry, protected, and properly stored.

Before you pack it away

Clean your cushions

Remove loose dirt and debris and clean according to the fabric care instructions.

Clean your furniture frames

Wipe down frames with mild soap and water to remove dirt and seasonal buildup.

Clean covers + storage bags

Make sure the products protecting your furniture are clean too.

Let everything dry

Give cushions, furniture, covers, and storage bags time to dry before storing them for the season.

Pack + Protect

Place cushions in storage bags

Store clean, dry cushions in a breathable storage bag.

Choose a dry, protected storage location

Keep cushion storage bags protected from direct exposure to rain and snow.

Keep stored items off the floor

When possible, elevate cushions and other fabric items to help keep them away from moisture that may collect on the floor.

Cover furniture staying outdoors

Use properly fitted outdoor furniture covers to help protect furniture from seasonal dirt, debris, and
weather.

Remove seasonal accessories

Put away decorative pillows, outdoor textiles, shade products, and other items that shouldn't remain outside for the winter.

One last check

Cushions are clean + dry

Furniture is clean + protected

Covers are secure

Shade products are removed

Accessories are stored

Nothing is left where water or snow can collect

Do you need another cushion storage bag? Would furniture covers make next winter easier? Does something need to be cleaned, repaired, or replaced?

Don't forget

Check on outdoor furniture and covers periodically throughout the off-season, especially after severe weather or heavy snowfall. Clean in the fall. Refresh in the spring.

A little preparation now makes getting back outside next season that much easier.
